Planning Policy

The Council’s planning policy team prepares documents used to guide development and determine planning applications. 

The Local Plan

The South Oxfordshire Local Plan 2011 sets out policies and proposals for development, such as housing and employment, and determines how the land in the district will be used.

The Local Development Framework

Latest news on our timetable 21 Feb 2008

Following government proposals on changes to the LDF process, we are considering reviewing our LDF timetable.  We will update the website with the new timetable when this is agreed

The planning system is changing and the Local Plan will gradually be replaced by a group of documents known as the Local Development Framework.   We have already begun work on our Site Allocations Development Plan document and a review on the South Oxfordshire Design Guide and are now starting work on our Core Strategy.

We develop documents in accordance with guidance in higher level plans, such as the Oxfordshire Structure Plan and the South East Plan. 

The main focus for the growth of housing in South Oxfordshire is Didcot and consequently we have been carrying out additional research here such as a flood risk assessment and a transport assessment.
