Planning and building control performance and targets

Planning and Building Control Enquiries

We aim to provide a good level of service in responding to planning and building control enquiries and dealing with informal requests on whether planning permission or building regulations is required.  The service is free of charge and we aim to respond to 83% of customers within 15 working days on general enquiries or 87% of customers within 10 working days on whether planning permission or building regulation is required.

Building Control Performance

The Council have set itself a local target to check 70% of building regulation applications (full plans) within 15 working days. Our current performance includes information relating to all applications checked in this financial year.

Decisions Made by the Head of Planning & Building Control

Over 90% of planning decisions made by the Council are by delegated powers granted to officers. Delegated powers are necessary to help the service work towards achieving Government set targets. The Council's scheme of delegation for applications is stated in the Constitution - Schedule 2, Functions, Delegations to Officers, Para. 82.

Planning Performance

The Government requires the Council to measure the speed in which it determines planning applications.  It sets national targets for each category of applications; Major, Minor and Other.

The Government targets (BVPI) are:

Major applications: to determine 60% of planning applications within thirteen weeks of registration

Minor applications: to determine 65% of planning applications within eight weeks of registration Other applications: to determine 80% of planning applications within eight weeks of registration.

South Oxfordshire District Council local targets have been set above the national targets, our current performance includes information relating to all applications determined in this financial year.

The monthly performance of the Development Control Team is outlined on the attached graphs:
