Demolition work
Letting us know
You must notify the Council at least six weeks before any demolition is due to start. This allows us time enough to serve a Demolition Notice specifying our requirements if it is necessary. Failure to comply with such a Notice can result in prosecution.
Notification of intended demolition should be given in writing to Environmental Services at:

This form can be downloaded and used to inform the Council of intended demolition:
Notification for Demolition
A site plan should accompany the demolition notification, clearly indicating the area to be demolished.
This should only be done once all other necessary approvals have been obtained from the Council Planning and Building Control and Conservation departments.
Demolition should not commence until either the Council has served a Demolition Notice, or confirmed in writing that a Notice will not be served.
There are exceptions to the above legislation, and if the proposed demolition falls within the following criteria the Environmental Health Service does not have to be informed of the demolition:
- any structure not more than 50 cubic metres (1750 cubic feet) in size;
- an internal part of an occupied structure;
- a greenhouse, conservatory, shed or prefabricated garage;
- an agricultural building, unless adjacent to a non-agricultural building
- Clarification as to whether individual demolitions are exempt or not can be obtained by calling the officer responsible for demolition on the number provided below.
Demolition Notice Requirements
If a Notice is served on a proposed demolition, it may include elements such as:
