Contaminated land
South Oxfordshire has a long history of industrial activities that operated within the district including activities such as gas works, engineering, land filling, timber treatment, vehicle maintenance and refuelling, paper manufacturing and sewage works.
These industrial activities and their related practices were not always as well regulated as they are today and awareness of the impacts of environmental contamination was not as well known. Contamination of the ground and the surrounding environment can sometimes be the result of these historical industrial activities.
