Council tax - paying your bill

Pay a bill online, safely and securely:

Please note the payments system is not compatible with the encryption used by some older web browsers*

If you have difficulty in paying any of your council bills, please contact us immediately.

Other methods of payment:

Telephone payments

There are two systems available. The first can be used through your telephone and is accessed by dialling 0845 303 8506. You will need:

  • your account number
  • your invoice number
  • your credit or debit card number

you will be prompted to enter your details using your telephone keypad. The payment will be processed and authorised during the call and at the end of the transaction you will be given a unique reference for future reference.

Paying by direct debit

This is the easiest way to make payment because your bank or building society does all the work and yet you remain in control.

How to switch to Direct Debit

To switch to direct debit, simply fill in and return the direct debit instruction attached to your council tax bill.

You are free to cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. If you do this, please also send a copy of the letter to us.

Cash, cheque or postal order

You can pay your council tax by cash, cheque or postal order free of charge at any branch of Barclays Bank Plc or Post Office. Please ensure you take your payment slips with you. Payment can also be made at any other bank, however there may be a charge for this facility.

PLEASE NOTE PAYMENTS MAY TAKE UP TO 7 DAYS TO REACH YOUR ACCOUNT IF PAYING AT THE BANK OR POST OFFICE
