Park Mark Safer Parking Award logo

Park Mark Safer Parking Award

The Council has secured a ‘Park Mark’ Safer Parking Award for nine of its pay and display car parks.  By using a Park Mark Safer Parking Area you can be confident measures are in place to deter criminal activity and create a safer environment for you and your vehicle.

The car parks with an award are:

  • Didcot, Edinburgh Drive
  • Henley, Kings Road
  • Henley, Greys Road
  • Henley, Southfields
  • Wallingford, Goldsmith lane
  • Wallingford, Cattlemarket
  • Council offices at Crowmarsh Gifford
  • Thame, Cattlemarket
  • Thame, Southern Road

About the awards

The scheme, promoted by the Association of Chief Police Officers and managed by the British Parking Association, show customers a commitment to reduce both criminal activity and the fear of crime.  To meet the award, each car park is independently vetted by police crime prevention officers to show the facility is properly managed, maintained and has appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness and crime levels - all of which contribute to reducing the opportunity for crime.

Warden Watch

The car park inspectors operate a 'Warden Watch' scheme with Thames Valley Police.  This means they report information to the police that could help to prevent car crime i.e if a car park inspector sees valuable items left visible in a car, the details are passed to Thames Valley Police who contact the owner and warn them of the risk of theft.

Car park inspectors also forward information about vehicles not displaying a valid motor licence (tax disc) to the DVLA.

For your own security, please make sure that items of value such as cameras, mobile 'phones, laptops, handbags and wallets are kept locked in the boot of your car.

If you see anything suspicious you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
