Community safety partnership

Crime reduction is usually associated with the work of the Police.  However, the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a statutory duty on local authorities and the police to set up Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) to reduce crime and the fear of crime in their areas.  The partnerships are also known as Crime & Disorder Reduction  Partnerships (CDRPs).

The South Oxfordshire Community Safety Partnership was initially formed in 1998 and now consists of 14 member organisations (see the links on the right for more information on members).

The Police and Justice Act (2006) introduced more changes to the way we work. Previously the Partnership was responsible for carrying out a  crime audit every three years.  The audit informed the Community Safety Strategy which addressed the various types of crime and community safety issues in the district over the next three years.

One of the recent changes is that the audit will be carried out annually to reflect the shifting patterns of crime, antisocial behaviour and substance misuse.  The first of the annual audits was carried out in 2007 and informed the current three year 'rolling' strategy which runs from April 2008 to March 2011. To view the current strategy please follow the link on the right of the page.
