CCTV
The Council has worked with Wallingford, Didcot, Thame and Henley Town councils to introduce town centre CCTV schemes.
The schemes help improve the detection of crime and reduce the fear of crime in the town centres. The Council funded
the cost of the installation, along with a large proportion of the running costs of the schemes. The town councils in Henley,
Wallingford, Thame and Didcot each contribute one-third of the annual running costs.
As well as being used to detect crime and disorder, CCTV is also used to monitor traffic, locate missing persons and give advance warning of fires or other emergency situations.
The CCTV Control Room is located in Abingdon where Vale of White Horse District Council staff are employed to monitor the cameras 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
Code of practice
The CCTV cameras are operated according to a Code of Practice adopted by the Thames Valley CCTV Users. To download the code from the Vale of White Horse District Council website follow the link on the right (please be aware that the code is being reviewed and updated).
