Business and economic development

Market towns

Supporting market towns

South Oxfordshire District Council is committed to supporting economic growth, the creation of vibrant market towns and promoting business growth and the creation of new jobs.

In order to achieve these objectives South Oxfordshire District Council approved a market towns strategy in 2006 with the aim to address retail economic decline in the market town centres of Henley, Thame and Wallingford. The full documents can be downloaded from the link below.

In Autumn 2008, South Oxfordshire District Council ran a series of events looking at the future of Henley, Thame and Wallingford with the view to devising an economic development plan for each of the towns. Three town plans were approved by Cabinet on 6 March 2008 and are updated annually. They  aim to highlight the priorities that the council will take the lead on addressing in each of the towns in the next three years (April 2009 to March 2012), as well as identify areas where the council will work in partnership with other bodies to deliver its objectives.

The current plan focuses on the specific actions to be delivered in the financial year 2010/11.  It  can be downloaded from the menu on the right hand side.
