The Council's economic development team aim to help make South Oxfordshire one of the most economically successful, and environmentally and culturally sustainable, rural areas in the country.
Corporate priorities
Supporting economic growth:
- support creation of vibrant market towns
- promote business growth and creation of new jobs
Transforming Didcot:
- plan for the expansion of Didcot as a major centre of population and employment in Southern Oxfordshire
- develop a thriving town centre with a wider range of facilities
Key targets 2009/10
- creation of an economic development strategy and action plan for South Oxfordshire
- delivery of economic development action plans for market towns of Wallingford, Thame and Henley
- support development of high tech growth sectors, including Science Vale UK
- increase inward investment to support sustainable employment
- delivery of £1.89 million LEADER project to support rural communities

- improving communication to businesses
- supporting economic development in the rural areas
- building partnerships and delivering initiatives in the market towns
- strategic sites development and reviewing strategic property opportunities
- management of council’s investment, operational and non-operational property portfolio
- assisting the delivery of various projects in Didcot (town’s sustainable growth, redevelopment of town centre and provision of community infrastructure)
