How can I find out who owns a tree?
Most trees will be in private ownership and trees are the responsibility of the owner. The council cannot investigate land ownership but this information can be provided by the Land Registry by calling 01452 511 111.
If the tree is affecting a surfaced road, road verge or pavement - Contact the Highways Service at Oxfordshire County Council on 0845 310 1111.
If the tree is affecting footpaths and other unsurfaced rights of way - Contact the Countryside Service at Oxfordshire County Council on 01865 810226.
Trees on public open spaces, such as parks will normally be managed by local Town and Parish councils. Signs in parks usually indicate who is responsible.
South Oxfordshire District Council owns and manages a small number of trees around the district, most of which are on council property. For more information contact the forestry team.
