New bus pass and travel tokens scheme FAQ
Information on your New Nationally Recognised Bus Pass
What do I do if I lose my new
bus pass?
If you lose your bus pass please contact the concessionary fares team on 0845 612 2422. Please note,
only one replacement pass will be issued free of charge, after this you will incur a charge.
Is there a limit
on how many journeys I can make?
No, you can travel as far and as much as you like, but strictly on local
journeys.
Will the new passes be smartcards?
The new bus passes will contain a microchip, which
can store information electronically. This is to enable electronic ticketing methods to be introduced some time in the future.
Currently in South Oxfordshire, this technology is not yet available, just show the bus driver your pass.
Where
can I get my new pass?
The Council can issue you with a new pass.
If I visit an area that
offers additional services, will I be entitled to them?
Probably not. Generally, local authorities will only
provide additional services for their own residents. Some authorities, however, may provide them – check with the relevant
authority in the area to which you intend to travel.
Can I use my bus pass to travel to London?
No. These routes including the Oxford Tube, Oxford Express and the National Express travelling from Oxford to London are
not deemed as ‘local’. These routes are not included in the scheme.
Can I use my bus pass to travel in London?
Yes, but only on local bus journeys. Unfortunately, the scheme does not include the London Underground.
Is
it only applicable to buses?
The new concession applies just to bus travel but some authorities offer additional
services. However, in most cases other authorities offering additional services will only apply to residents from that area.
If I need a companion, will they need a bus pass too?
No. If you are entitled to a companion,
your bus pass will state that you need a companion. This will guarantee free travel for one additional person. This only applies
to travel within the Oxfordshire County area. If you require a companion whilst travelling outside this area, you will need
to check with the relevant local authority.
Can I apply for travel tokens as well?
No. If you
have a bus pass, you are not entitled to travel tokens as well. However, if you would prefer travel tokens and are eligible,
you can return your bus pass (after a 12 month period) and apply for travel tokens instead.
What do I do if
I move?
If you are moving house please make sure you let us know your new address. If you move to another
area you will need to request a new bus pass from your new local authority and return the old bus pass to us.
