Cosmetic piercing, tattooists, electrolysis and acupuncture

You'll need to register with the council to carry out the following types of skin piercing and cosmetic treatments:

  • Acupuncture
  • Tattooing
  • Cosmetic piercing (ear piercing and body piercing)
  • Electrolysis
  • Semi permanent skin colouring

This is covered by The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 Part VIII.  The Act requires registration to cover both the person carrying on the practice and the premises used for that purpose.  Practice is controlled through compliance with bylaws in each case.

To register, please complete the relevant application form (see downloads section of this page) and send to the Food & Safety Team.  Please include a copy of your qualification certificate and the appropriate fee (cheques payable to South Oxfordshire District Council).  Please see below for our fees.  If you have any queries you can contact the Food & Safety Team (see Contacts section of this page).

Additional Person - £118.00

Amendments to Premises - £118.00

Duplicate Certificate - £10.00
