David Bretherton

Chair of South Oxfordshire District Council

At the Annual Meeting of the council held on 16 May Councillor David Bretherton was elected as Chair of the council for 2019/20.

Councillor Bretherton was born in Lancashire but he has lived in Thame with his wife Margaret since 1984.  He originally moved to the area to be close to RAF Halton while serving in the RAF but he put down roots and brought up his family here.

Councillor Bretherton has been a councillor for many years both on the district and Thame Town Councils. He has twice served as Mayor of Thame.

During his year as Chair, Councillor Bretherton will working to raise awareness of and funds for Earth Trust at Little Wittenham and the Red Kite Family Centre in Thame.

Cllr Bretherton's next fundraising event is 'An Evening with the Joneses'.  This unique event is taking place on Wednesday 30 October at the Thame Players Theatre starting at 7.45pm.  Ian Jones will be relating tales of his time as a bomb disposal officer and Catherine Jones will be telling us about her experiences as a writer of romantic novels.  Two very contrasting topics so hopefully something to appeal to everyone.

Tickets cost just £10 each and are available from Spear Travels, in Greyhound Walk, Thame or on line at thameplayers.co.uk.

All profits from the evening will be shared between both above charities.

The Vice-Chair is Councillor Elizabeth Gillespie.
