Useful information about the payment process
The council's secure online payment system is available 24 hours a day.
You will be taken to a secure website, where you will be asked for your credit or debit card details. To ensure a swift transaction, the system checks your account details before your payment is completed.
Please note: if paying by credit card, an automatic surcharge of 1.36% will be added to your transaction total. No surcharge will be applied to debit card payments.
Reference number you will need to make your payment (this will change depending on what you are paying). Examples of some of these bills and invoices, with the relevant references circled, can be downloaded from links on the right-hand side of this page.
You can pay the following council services online
Click here to pay your council tax – IMPORTANT: your reference number is the eight digit reference beginning with a 4 as displayed on your council tax bill
Click here to pay business rates - IMPORTANT: your reference number is the seven digit reference beginning with a 5 as displayed on your business rates bill
Click here to pay parking fines - IMPORTANT: your reference number is the eight character reference starting XC on your parking fine
Housing Benefits Debtors Academy - IMPORTANT: your reference number is the eight digit reference beginning with a 7 as displayed on your housing benefit overpayment invoice
Fixed penalty notice - IMPORTANT: your reference number is the six digit reference beginning with a 6 that is displayed on the fixed penalty notice
Other invoices - this is to pay all other sundry debt invoices e.g Licence fees. Please do not enter your Customer ID. The Garden Waste service is now only payable by Direct Debit.
Click here if your invoice includes a six or eight digit invoice number beginning with a 1 . Enter this number as the reference number on the next screen.
Click here if your invoice contains a reference number starting with SD . Enter this number as the reference number on the next screen.
Please note: The payments system is not compatible with older web browsers that use SSLv2 or lower encryption. If your web browser is using SSLv2 or lower please upgrade your browser to a new version.
Alternatively you may wish to use your own bank’s internet or telephone banking system. You will need to quote the council’s bank account and sort code which is:-

You also need to quote the correct council reference (depending on what you are paying) detailed above. Failure to quote the correct reference will lead to delays in allocating the payment once it has been received.
