Automated payment systems
Payments of council tax, business rates, parking fines and other invoices can be made using our automated payment systems using a debit card or a credit card.
This is available via the online payments section of this website. Again, you will need your account, excess charge or invoice number as well as your credit or debit card details. The payment will be processed and authorised during the transaction and at the end you will be given a unique reference number for future reference.
Please note the payments system is not compatible with web browsers that use SSLv2 or lower encryption. If your web browser is using SSLv2 or lower please upgrade your browser to a new version
You can call our main switchboard number 01235 422422 to make telephone payments. This call will cost you 2 pence per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.
When you telephone you will need:
- your account number (for council tax and business rates), or
- your excess charge number (parking fines), or
- your invoice number
- your credit or debit card number
Once you have dialled the telephone number, you will be prompted to enter your details using your telephone keypad. The payment will be processed and authorised during the call and at the end of the transaction you will be given a unique reference to write down and keep for future reference.
You can pay your council invoice via PayPoint at any Post Office or retail outlet where you see the PayPoint sign. Please remember to allow five to ten working days for your payment to reach us each month.

For problems paying the amount due please contact the relevant department. Contact details should be shown on the invoice.
